Simple Tips to Care and Clean your Hangai Throw: How to care for your cashmere or yak down blanket?
Posted by Hangai Mountain Textiles on Mar 30th 2020
As the weather begins to warm up, it’s important to set aside a little time to properly care and store for your Hangai textiles. You may think it’s best to take them to the dry cleaner, but yak down, camel down and cashmere can be damaged by the harsh chemicals. When you invest in luxury textiles, it’s worth investing a little extra time to ensure they will last for years.
We recommend three easy steps to clean and preserve your blankets, throws and accessories for next winter.
1) It’s OK to use the washing machine - wash on short, cold, delicate cycle, one item at a time, with hand wash detergent. You can add a little natural hair conditioner into the rinse cycle. Do not overload as too much friction can cause pilling.
2) Dry flat or and steam, if needed
3) Fold and store in a breathable bag with lavender or other herbal sachets, a natural moth repellant.
If you use the item often don’t wait for the seasons to change, wash it regularly to keep the fiber clean, fresh and long-lasting.
Here's a little feedback from a customer after following our care tips:
The throw washed beautifully!!!
I used Woolite in the delicate cycle with a cold wash and rinse, low spin. I also took your suggestion and diluted my expensive Pureology hair conditioner and loaded that for the rinse cycle.
I laid the throw flat on my queen bed to dry and blocked the edges a bit to get them straight.
Hopefully happy days are ahead for us all, but your comforting throws are helpful in these sad times.
Thanks again,
Lori K.
