<Unraveling Luxury: How Quality determines Market Position

There are several factors that determine the price of a Hangai throw or blanket, but in a nutshell, the quality of fibers, production processes, weight and design all dictate the price and price difference between collections.

Quality of Cashmere and Yak Down: The primary determinant of the price of cashmere throws is the quality of the cashmere or yak fibers used. Cashmere or yak down sourced from the undercoat of cashmere goats or yak is considered the finest and most luxurious. Hangai throws command a higher price as all of our throws made from this high-quality cashmere and yak down will be softer, warmer, and more durable.

Fiber Length and Fineness, plus Hand-Combing: The length and fineness of the cashmere and yak fibers also affect the price. Longer and finer fibers, achieved through hand-combing, are more desirable as they result in a smoother and softer texture. Throws made from these meticulously selected fibers, such as those hand-combed by our partners in Mongolia, feel more luxurious and command a premium price due to their superior quality. Hangai prides itself on using hand-combing techniques to harvest the longest and finest cashmere and yak fibers, ensuring that our throws are of exceptional quality, thus justifying their luxury position.

Weight of the Throw: The weight of a throw will also impact its price. Throws with a higher weight typically contain more cashmere or yak fibers, making them denser, warmer, and more luxurious. As a result, heavier throws are often priced higher due to the increased amount of premium fiber used in their production. Additionally, more intricate knitting techniques, may require additional craftsmanship and potentially fiber, contributing to an premium priced product.

Origin of Fiber: The region where the cashmere or yak is sourced can impact its price. Cashmere and yak down from Mongolia are known for their superior quality. Mongolian cashmere goats and yaks develop a soft, downy undercoat during the winter months to protect themselves from the cold. It’s this soft undercoat that is hand-combed and used to knit Hangai’s collections.

Design and Details: Throws with intricate designs, patterns, or embellishments may be priced higher due to the additional craftsmanship involved. Unique design and techniques, such as those used to produce Hangai’s Bauhaus Collection, require additional craftsmanship and attention to design.
